Describing myself

I'm a hardworking person, I love to do things with passion, I'm very passionate with all that I do. I'm reliable too. In this moment I'm in process of improving my patient, that's my fault, I'm not a patient person. My straightness are that I'm loyal, strong and decisive. Personally I can be funny, and charismatic when I'm feel closer with the speaker, but usually I'm serious.

This activity was very important, because without this knowledge, I won't be able to describe myself, or describe persons, and it's very important to do that in a job. It can be mixed with present continuos to complement the sentence.

Job goals

In this class I learned some expressions like the ones up of this paragraph. It's interesting because we use expressions like that in Spanish, and they're very useful. It wasn't difficult to use. I put that 4 because sometimes I need to decide between two options and I need to weight up my options to do a decision. Also I need to put forward my ideas, because sometimes they keep on the paper, and then I need to trust in my instincts and nake up my mind when I'm stressed. 

Key points for a successful email

In this lesson I learned how to write a business email, because I don't understood why is necessary to do a brief subject, because if you do a long one, or if you don't say exactly that you want, the reader may don't read the mail, and sometimes emails are very important.
In fact, we need to consider this points to do a successful email:

-Use less usual words
-Never use abbreviations
-do a short sign. Don't be pretentious.
-Be formal
-Be brief and straightforward.
-Do a paragraph by each idea, with that your email will be organized by key points.
-Be carefully with who will have a copy of the mail. Sometimes it's not necessary to send copies to thrird persons.
-Don't attach big files.
-You can try to be creative with the subject. I find some interesting ideas for a marketing email.

Entry 10: Talking about quotes

In this class, we order some quotes that was disorganized. With that exercise, I realized that i'm not using reading strategies, because in the quotes you can find opposites, list of actions and things like that. 

So, I will try to use that strategies in every moment, because they're very important for the every day. Sometimes you haven't a dictionary or translator and that strategies can really help you.   

With the end of this partial, I feel bad, because sometimes I still having problems doing simple questions. We read an article about CES, and the problem was that we took like 10 minutes to do a simple question, so, we have a lot to learn. 

Entry 9: Inference

In this class, we learn to use the inference to predict the meaning of some words by the context. It was interesting, because sometimes you can determine the meaning of the words without dictionary, and that's useful for fast readings. I did inference a lot of times, but i didn't think about it, i used to predict meanings by context, not only when i read texts on english, in spanish too. 

Entry 8: Contrast and restatement clues.

With Contrast clues i found easily the meaning of the words, that's because the word have the opposite on the sentence, and they're together with the connector "but". This is very useful because sometimes i don't put attention on that, and the meaning it's very easy to find. 
With Restatement clues, you can find the meaning easy, because you have the meaning next to the word. 
Both are useful in all of my subjects, not only in english, because with that strategies i will be able to read a text easily and very fast. 

Entry 7: Words and meaning

In this class, we work in teams and we worked with some words like youngster, elder, doze, duet and decent. We find the meaning of that words using the context. With some words i can easily find the meaning, because (for example), elder and older have similar writting. That words was simple, i didn't have any complication with that. 

Entry 6: Past continuos

In this class i learned how to use the past continuos and simple, because i confused when i need to use did and when. Did is for past simple, but was/were is the past of the verb to be. This is very useful, because in a business conversation (and, in general, in any kind of conversation) we often need to talk about things that happened in the past. 

Entry 5: Phone Conversations (Jan 23)

On this class, we learn about some phrases useful for phone conversations, like "wait a second, could i speak with....?, one moment please, can i take/leave a message? " and things like that. They're very useful because in the business world, we will need to speak by phone, and they're necessary. We also listen to rude and friendly pronunciations about the phrases, so, we will be able to do the intonation to be friendly. 

This is my problem, sometimes I talk like rude and isn't my fault, because my voice sound angry, so I will be careful with the intonation. 

I think that talking by phone is easier than talk face to face, because you can think what you will answer, and you can take notes if the person says something important or interesting, and you can do another activity at the same time of the call.  

Entry 4: Speaking practice

In general, I feel fine in the practice. My problem was that I was nervous during the first exercise, and i feel insecure. With the practice, i lost that feeling, so i will improve my skills if I practice a lot with my partners. Practicing a lot of english like read some articles and watch sitcoms and series, read about business will help me to improve my grammar, my speaking and my listening too, because sometimes i felt like i can't follow the person who is talking, because sometimes i feel the person was talking too fast, so, listening a lot of english will help me.

I'm enjoying to take a quiz.

I'm studying for the quiz. 

My problem was with the ing on the sentences, because i did future sentences instead affirmations sentences because i put "going to". 

Entry 2: What strategies I know how to use?.

THE LIFE OF A SUPERMODEL

Jourdan Dunn, from West London, was shopping for sunglasses when she was spotted by a scout from the agency that discovered Kate Moss.

But modelling isn´t always as glamorous as some people think. Normally, Jourdan stays in models' apartments (identifying main ideas ) when she's on tour, but she doesn't enjoy it. 'I hate staying in model's apartments. Most models usually have their mums running around looking after them, so the house is a mess. I'm a clean person so it's hard to cope.' But this week is London Fashion Week and she's staying at home (scanning ), eating home-cooked food and watching the British soap opera EastEnders.

Dunn doesn´t do modelling just for fun- she's a career woman with a busy schedule. After three 5.00 a.m. starts during London Fashion Week, she's then flying to Milan for the next round of shows. New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks all follow on from one another, so it's a non-stop round of castings, auditions and catwalks shows. After that comes to an end, she's doing shoots for magazines and campaigns (scanning), and is modelling in one-off shows.

While Manny things have changed for Dunn, she has changed few lifestyle habits since starting modelling: she still shops on the high streets (scanning), wears trainers rather than high heels, and eats junk food (scanning).

Although Dunn's living in the spotlight at the moment, she doesn't let success go to her head, and says she still hangs out with the same friends rather than other models. As for the glamorous after-parties, they're all full of old people, ' I'm not really into after-parties. I feel like I'll be with a bunch of people not my age'.

Questions: 

1) When working, Jourdan normally stays in models' apartments, but this week, she staying at her mum's.

2) When she isn't doing modeling shows, she sometimes does shootings. 

3) She still buying in normal stores and enjoys eating junk food.

4) She doesn't go to lots of model parties. 

I used scanning because i need to read the text carefully to answer the questions without problems. With the first question, i found the answer with identifying main ideas, because that was in the first part of the text, but wasn't the same story for the other answers, that i find scanning the text.

How competent you feel about reading strategies?

HW (12/Jan/17) 

In this class, we learn about strategies for a correct reading. We saw 3 reading strategies: Prediction, Scanning and Identify main ideas. This is so useful for me, because if I predict things before reading the text, I can have a general idea about the text content. Scanning is a great idea for save time!, that's because if I scan a text (like a computer scanner, checking all the information of the page) I will be able to find and identify main ideas, and that's the goal. 

This strategy can be used in other subjects, like Math or Verbal Expression, and it will be so important for me, because if I read and not only "see" a text, I will be able to understand what I'm reading and what I'm doing. 

I can't understood some words, and when I ask to the teacher for the meaning of the words, she told to the class "You need to intuit the meaning of the words, because if you read a dictionary, you will find the reading boring", that's very interesting, now I will write the words that i can't understand, and when i finish the reading I will look for the meaning online.
